LEARNING LOVE - PART TWO

With all the teaching all the time about marriage... WHY ARE SO MANY couples who go to church all the time living in such BROKEN MARRIAGES? 
  • I believe that God has created a system called The Church in which we teach and support and love one another. 
  • I believe that the older ones who make up The Church have a wisdom that only comes from living Life and seeing and experiencing the faithfulness of God. 
  • I believe we are supposed to tell our stories of God's love and faithfulness to the younger generations.  
  • I believe we older ones are the ones who should encourage younger families that God will be faithful, and tell them to hang on for dear life through those storms and testings because GOD WILL DELIVER.  GOD WILL DELIVER if you cling to Him.

Having said that ... I DON'T believe God's idea for the FAMILY OF GOD is that we should PRIMARILY be a group of teachers and students.  Most churches look more like  schools - sermons, small groups, children's ministry - than a family. This is unfortunate because LOVE is the measuring stick of the success of a family.  And we are THE FAMILY OF GOD.

What does this have to do with marriage between two Christians?

You cannot love another person the way God expects you to - and they cannot love you the way you expected them to - until you have been loved by God in a way you never expected.
(That's a good quote, Mrs. Older.) 

God is whispering a message through all the turmoil of our lives.  Can you hear Him?
You think it's a coincidence you're reading this? Nope.
He is saying,  "Trust Me. MY LOVE WILL BE ENOUGH FOR YOU"
But
We 
Don't
Believe 
Him.

If you could see "Control Central" In Heaven.. you might understand that everything that God allows in your life is NOT MERELY so that you can learn lessons about being a "good Christian" (a redundant phrase if there ever was one)

but that through the lessons you might learn God's love

I cannot teach love. No one can.

Paul the Apostle tried to explain this to the new Christians at the church in Ephesus.  He knew that it would take POWER from the Holy Spirit for them to grasp the love of Christ. And he told them that only grasping the love of Christ, which surpasses KNOWLEDGE.. will have us be filled to the fullness of God.   Who wants to follow God but NOT get filled with God's fullness?  Not me. Why bother if you are going to have just a little bit of God?
Paul didn't say KNOWLEDGE is wrong.. but that knowing the love of Christ WENT BEYOND KNOWLEDGE.  I've said it before... until the moment you discover that God's love is ENOUGH... nothing else ever will be. And some of you believe me.. .Hallelujah!

Ephesians 3:14-21

"For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.  I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,  so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,  and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,  to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

  1. I am also an older woman and have been following this blog for about a year.Your pure heart of love for God and his people comes through. I pray that many more will read your uncomplicated approach to being married and following God.
